nomen viri, de quo vide Euseb. l. 2. c. 12. Eius meminit Gamaliel, Actorum c. 5. v. 36. Nam ante haec tempora exortus est Theudas, dicens sc aliquem esse: cui agglutinatus est numerus virorum circiter quadringentorum, qui interemptus est, et omnes, qui assensi sunt ei, dissoluti sunt et ad nihibilum redacti. Quae historia circa nativitatem CHRISTI et ultimos Herodis annos contigisse videtur. Unde Ongenes contra Celsum, l. 1. asserere non dubitat, Theudam Christi praecessisse nativitatem; fierique potest, ut occasionem iste arripuerit, ex periculo, in quo versatus est Herodes, sub postrema tempora, quando Augustus, accusatione Syllaei adversus illum irritatus, literas minarum plenas ad eum scripsit, de quibus vide Io sephum, l. 16. c. 15. Alius postea eiusdem nominis, sub Procuratore Iudaeae Cuspio Fado, turbas dedit, teste eôdem, l. 20. c. 2. qui is esse non potest, cuius Gamaliel locô cit. meminit, cum inter habitae contionis a Gamaliele tempus et procurationis Fadi extrema tempora, in quibus Theudae Iosephus facit mentionem, anni minimum quatuordecim intercedant.
